Localilo: Scarborough – South Africa.

A few weeks ago we visited South Africa and went to a place called Scarborough which is located at the border of Cape Point National Reserve. This place is what I call 'heaven on earth'. This is sooooo fantastic. As soon as we arrived we drove down to the beach with its mysterious mist and rough waves. I felt like I wanted to stay here forever.

During our, unfortunately, too short stay we slept in a really wonderful lodge called ZensaLodge. This place is surrounded by beauty, nature, mountains and oceans. Hein and Cyrille who own and run Zensa Lodge are both musicians at heart and come from The Netherlands. 

The design of the lodges fit my style really well. White floors, crisp white bed linen and all natrual materials. Just take a look at this breathtaking place. And go there…., if you have the chance.

Kids Room inspiration.

Kids Room.

I love to think about how to design kids rooms. It doesn't really matter if the room is ment for babies, toddlers or teens. As long as my fantasy wanders, I am happy. And of course I like to do it my own way, with fun prints, nice lightning, lovely posters, authentic furniture, a mix of colors.... Besides that I like to look at the functionality of the room. Do you need to feed the baby, or is there a storyteller that needs a big, comfortable and cosy chair. Do you like to have a tea party in your room or do you need space for all your favourite animals. When I discovered the mokkasin website, my heart jumped. What a wonderful things they have. I just love it. But also Annliz and Bodie & Fou have beautiful things for kids. Shack Chiq - South African Townships.

Last week I went to South Africa -Hout Bay- to see very dear friends who live there since January 2012. And one morning we drove around to get a glimp of the overwhelming nature and wonderful architecture of Cape Dutch houses. We drove past a township or so called Shack. Thoughts like ‘I’ll never get out of my car because people are going to kill me' run trough people’s minds as they race past at high speed. But do you actually know that there's life there - there's living there, there's relationships there and there's beauty in these places you might think are ugly.

Craig Fraser, who has photographed some of the most luxurious homes in the world, has done a wonderful job by photographing these shacks. His vibrant images capture the style and innovation of Cape Town’s shack dwellers, using only available light, without any styling, to show their true beauty. And I love it.
